Some of the largest datasets in the Emirati Genome Program, including major long-read genome and genome-wide methylation cohorts, run through computational platforms overseen by Tiago R. Magalhães. As Vice President of Bioinformatics at M42, he plays a central role in the programme, turning that data into insights that support predictive, preventive and precision healthcare. He brings more than 20 years in bioinformatics and genomics, gained across academia, industry and entrepreneurship.
Tiago joined from Genuity Science in Ireland, where he was Director of Bioinformatics, managing genomic studies and collaborations with global pharmaceutical companies. Before that he served as Executive Director of CCMAR in Portugal, and his research has spanned autism, diabetes, cancer and ancestry genomics. He has also founded a personalised medicine start-up and advised biotechnology and venture capital firms. His PhD, in Cell Biology and Neurodevelopment, was completed at the University of Coimbra and the University of California, Berkeley, and he also holds an Executive MBA from the University of Milano-Bicocca.
